Discover OC's National Natural Landmark

Nearly 40,000 acres of open space on the historic Irvine Ranch have been designated a Natural Landmark by both the State of California and the U.S. Department of the Interior. This honor recognizes the exceptional value of these lands to California and the entire nation. The Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks is part of the 50,000 acres of land preserved on the historic Irvine Ranch.

Join us for a challenging and beautiful adventure as we hike to the Hangman’s Tree Monument on Loma Ridge. Hike distance is 6 miles and affords fantastic views along the way, spanning the Pacific coastline, San Gabriel peaks and the Santa Ana Mountains.

Fitness Hike

At Little Sycamore

Raise your heart rate and your spirits on this difficult, strenuous and fast-paced, 4.8-mile hike (400-ft. elevation gain) over very steep, uneven terrain with Laguna Canyon Foundation volunteers.

Nature provides us with many tasty treats. Learn which plants are yummy for our tummies as we taste a few of these scrumptious natural treats. After your snack time, we will stroll through the trails to search for what the animals eat! Family friendly for ages 2-6 years of age.

Mountain Biking

At Bommer Canyon

This moderate-paced mountain bike tour through the picturesque hills of Bommer and Shady Canyons includes a combination of ranch roads and multiple intermediate and advanced level technical single-track trails, with many steep climbs and descents.

Evening Hike

At Fremont Trail

Enjoy a challenging scenic twilight hike in the remote Fremont Canyon Nature Preserve. Our hike climbs steeply from the mouth of Fremont Canyon, past an abandoned coal mine, up to the Fremont Weather Station.
